News from Historic Thomaston Resource Group (HTRG), a Town appointed committee with the mission of promoting and maintaining the heritage and distinctive diversity of Thomaston’s historic architecture and to provide a framework for its maintenance and preservation: In keeping with our mission and at our request, the Historic Fales Homestead, 59 High Street, has been placed on the Maine Preservation 2019 Endangered List. As such, Maine Preservation will work with the owner and the community to transition the property to a new steward, who can ensure that the home is both restored and maintained. As one of Thomaston’s oldest surviving houses, it is worthy of our concern.
Habitat on Maine, a collaboration between Midcoast Habitat for Humanity and HTRG, continues to progress with work on 52 Main Street. Replacement entry decking and landscaping improvements were made during the summer, and new storm windows will be installed once we wrap up the final scraping and painting phase of the facade of the home in the coming weeks. Thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers who contributed their time, labor and generous donations to make this happen.
