On Tuesday, October 8th, archaeologist Harbour Mitchell, will offer a short informative talk on the digs he has been working on recently. Also, people are encouraged to bring their finds from old “dumps” around their houses. After the talk Harbour will entertain us by helping identify and possibly suggest the story behind these discarded gems or junk. This talk is sponsored by the Thomaston Historical Society and the Knox Museum.
Harbour Mitchell has been conducting archaeological explorations throughout New England and especially Maine for several decades. In recent years, his focus has been on the world of Euro-American civilian development of the frontier in the late 18th and very early 19th centuries. In the summers of 2017 and 2018 he conducted an exploratory dig on Thatcher Street, behind the former sites of Montpelier and Fort St. Georges.
Come listen to Harbour’s story and bring your finds on Tuesday, October 8th, at Watts Hall (174 Main Street, Thomaston). The building will open at 7:00 for refreshments and socializing. The presentation will start at 7:30.
