20180404 WHCP The Pirates of Penzance

Watts Hall Community Theater’s production team has cast over 40 local people from ages 7 to 75 for this summer’s show, Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance. The theater group will once again draw on the talents of many members of the community to put the production together.

While Gilbert and Sullivan set their musical in Victorian England, Watts Hall Community Players will present an updated version set during the 1950s on the Jersey shore. The hilarious farce will still be packed full of sentimental pirates, bumbling British Bobbies, and improbable paradoxes. But the cocky band of pirates will encounter a bevy of beautiful maidens and the delightful “model of a modern Major General” for a rollicking romp on this side of the Atlantic.

Rehearsals have begun, but it isn’t too late to become involved. Director Daryl Hahn is looking for a few more members of the team to put on the show. If you were out of town during auditions or would like to help the production effort, there isstill time. Head of Costuming Sheilagh Guyer is looking toborrow a few items to be used in the show: black or brownleather jackets, saddle shoes, white bucks or high-top sneakers. Those interested in loaning items or becoming involved maycontact Daryl Hahn at .

Performances will be held on June 29th and 30th and July first,6th and 7th in Watts Hall on Main Street in Thomaston.
