The members of Watts Hall Community Players have become known for rollicking summer musicals staged around the 4th of July for simple summer fun for all. This year’s offering won’t disappoint. The cast, consisting of some 40 community members of all ages, is rehearsing Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, the hilarious farce of sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted young lovers and an eccentric Major General who knows how to sing really fast.
Described as an “effervescent musical masterpiece,” the WHCP production features surprises for those who are familiar with the British version. Performances will be held on June 29 and 30, July 6 and 7 at 7 pm.; July 1 at 3 pm. Tickets are $12 in advance at wattspirates.eventbrite.com or at Grasshopper in Rockland, State of Maine Cheese, Athens Pizza in Thomaston or $15 at the door. Thanks to a grant from the Maine Community Foundation, Watts Hall has a new lighting and sound system.
