The annual Laying of Wreaths Ceremony at the grave of General Henry Knox will take place on Saturday morning, July 25th beginning at 10:30 A.M. at the Thomaston Village Cemetery. This impressive ceremony will take place on the 265th anniversary of Henry Knox’s birth on July 25, 1750.
Henry Knox was in charge of the artillery during our War for Independence and also served as the first Secretary of War (now known as the Secretary of Defense) in President Washington’s first cabinet. In celebration of his life and the role he played in our gaining of independence from Great Britain, he rose from obscure beginnings as a Boston bookseller to becoming a national hero.
Members of many national organizations meet each July to honor this admired man and pay tribute to his work and commitment to America, the land of his birth and his first priority.
Following the morning activities presented by the Thomaston Historical Society there will be a reception at Montpelier, General Henry Knox Museum. The public is invited to attend and participate in both events.
