Is the Thomaston 4th of July committee going to let anything stop us from showing our love for our state, our country or celebrating our nation's independence?  Heck no!!

The Thomaston 4th of July committee is proud to offer a pandemic-friendly contest to commemorate Independence Day 2020.  We are going to encourage everyone in Thomaston to show their creativity and patriotic colors by decorating their homes and businesses for the week of Monday June 29th through Monday July 6th.  This will allow people in our community and visitors to see your work (from a safe distance) and to share in the joy as they go about their daily lives.  Please feel free to enhance your decorations with costumes and live action from 9 am-12 pm on Saturday the 4th of July, when we will have anonymous, volunteer judges walking, jogging, driving, boating, etc throughout town in order to select winners in 4 categories:  Most Patriotic, Most Humorous, Most Creative, and Maine:200 years of Independence.  There will also be a People’s Choice Award where everyone can vote online throughout the week for their favorite display. Keep an eye on the Thomaston 4th of July Celebration Facebook page and the local papers, as we will have details on how to register your display!  Please send us videos and take pictures to post to Facebook so that people can enjoy from home too!

There will be $100 gift cards from local businesses given out as prizes for each category, a special prize basket for the People’s Choice award and lots of bragging rights for our winners.  More importantly, we hope that we can put some hope, joy and fun back into the heart of our community which has suffered greatly during this difficult time.  So, get out the whiteboards and put your thinking caps on and let's do the best we can to make sure we all have a safe but fun Thomaston 4th of July!!

We, like you, are bummed about the current circumstances surrounding the Coronavirus, and the subsequent social distancing protocols.  This means that we are not going to be able celebrate the 4th of July, as has been the Thomaston tradition for many years.  Unfortunately, like so many other of our great Maine festivals and celebrations, we need to err on the side of caution, and have made the decision to cancel the road race, parade, fireworks and other festivities that would have brought large groups of people together.  We look forward to seeing the amazing Town of Thomaston and all her visitors celebrating in full force in 2021!!
